No More Hourly Contract Programming? I received a call to day from a friend who related the following to me, if there are any inaccuracies please post to the net : Our California state government is considering has a bill (A.B. 2275) which requires that all programming work must be done by a corporation for a fixed amount. In addition, prior approval would have to be granted by a California State Employment Development Department. This would legally DISALLOW a person contracting with another party to do hourly programming. Programmers would have to be hired by a corporation to do any work. To voice an opinion about this please write, phone, or telegram the commitee members: (they are meeting on APRIL 19 1985) Jerald Eaves Tom Bane David Elder Peter Chacon Bill Lancaster Alisor Mc Alister John Lewis Steve Peace Eric Seastrand Cathy Right Financial & Insurance Sub Commitee California State Assembly State Capital Sacramento, Ca. 95814 For further (apposed) information call: Mike Graebner (408) 734 5191 To mail an Opinion Gram call: 800 325 6000 ($4.45 20 words) -- Grant E. I suggest you call the highest company officer you can reach and express your opinion of their action. You might inquire about their motives. This is good only for splenic venting. If you are going to make only a few calls, call the chairman and vice chairman below. The following are the members of the Financial & Insurance Subcommittee, who will be the first to vote on the bill on Monday April 29, 1985. Phone calls are good. OpinionGrams are even better. There isn't time for ordinary mail to reach the legislators before Monday. BE SURE TO MENTION THAT YOU ARE A PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMMER. Our opinions on this subject should be considered to be more informed than those of the public in general, though anyone can see that this proposed law would violate our individual rights to conduct business.
