The new address of Technica, the technical assistance to Nicaragua project TechNICA 1227 4th Street Santa Monica, CA 90401 1-213-394-1183 Anyone with enough computer background to access the net probably can be of use. Projects range from teaching classes in programming languages, databases, Lotus1-2-3, basic use of microcomputers, installing software, seminars on repairs, etc. Folks with specialized skills in Mechanics, Machining, Boiler repair, etc are also needed. It is a fine way to show the Nicaraguans a more humane face of America, and to contribute to the re-building rather than the destruction of Nicaragua. It's legal, fun, and extremely useful and appreciated. It is also a wonderful way to tell Reagan what you think of his shameful aggression against the Nicaraguan people. Micros not Mines! On to Managua! ihnp4!ihlpg!berman

Two things about TechNica: 1. I'd be interested in reading accounts from people who've gone to Nicaragua under TechNica of, more or less, what their projects involved. 2. Any ideas about the sort of minimal competence in Spanish required to make the going productive?

Morrow Long Perhaps, if Nicaragua's industries were running on Crays. But what they're really limping along on is old TRS-80s and CBMs. They do need help, and they are getting *A LOT* of help from western Europe. In fact, the rest of the world looks upon our aid to the contras with something between disbelief and outrage. Alas, the Senile One would have us believe that anyone who trades with the USSR is a Marxist-Leninist. I'm not convinced we should be aiding the contras, but why is the point of view of the rest of the world (undoubtedly, you are refering to governemnts) is important. The vast majority of the governemnts in the world are a lot worse than ours. If they complain, you can be fairly certain they're doing it to divert attention from their own abuses. Mike Sykora

It seems to be the one issue that unites all parties and all countries (EXCEPT for their governments, who have to keep on good terms with Reagan). Most Europeans might not agree with the Sandanistas as to their ideologies, but they seem to have tremendous sympathy for them on account of what the Reagan administration is doing to Nicaragua. -- Martin Taylor {allegra,linus,ihnp4,floyd,ubc-vision}!utzoo!dciem!mmt {uw-beaver,qucis,watmath}!utcsri!dciem!mmt

These countries have their quirks, but are generally considered to be civilized. My statement was in reply to some right-winger's suggestion that helping the Sandinistas with their computer equipment was essentially giving aid to Moscow. I was attempting to point out that Nicaragua is not Mongolia, no matter how much the Senile One (or said right-winger) might wish it so. -- *** *** JE MAINTIENDRAI ***** ***** ****** ****** 03 Jul 85 [15 Messidor An CXCIII] ken perlow ***** ***** (312)979-7753 ** ** ** ** ..ihnp4!iwsl8!ken *** ***

It certainly is refreshing to see that Ken Perlow has not lost his naive outlook on life. Soviets are not Mongols. What a line. If it weren't for guys like Perlow to be the appologists for the soviets, the net would be a dull place. I'm glad that the world supply of rose-colored glasses has not diminished and that Mondale supporters are still up to their necks in Reagan bashing. Next thing we know, Ken will be calling for a recount of the election. Makes life exciting to think that there are no baddies anywhere. Perhaps Ken should post his writings to net.jokes, they certainly have been good for a laugh. Or better yet, he and Rich Rosen could set up a dirrect line between each other and they could both keep telling each other how perfect everything is in the world with the soviets around. I don't know what we could call their philosophies, but they sure give true liberals a bad name. Perhaps they could be called "rosies" to match their outlooks on life. Well, Ken, I don't know if you realize this or not, but I don't know of anyone who thinks that the average Ivan Lunchpail is any kind of threat or any different than our own Fred Factoryface. They just live in two different areas of the world. What folks get upset about is the actions of that 2 or 3 percent of the soviets who do want to bash the US of A. It is that small percentage who are in control Ken. It is that small percentage who are willing to do anything possible to get one up on the US. It is that small percentage who see to it that they get the technical knowledge through their flunkies around the world. It is that small percentage who set up groups like technica or whatever to skim off the information. It is that small percentage who are screwing up the lives of countless millions of people including Ivan Lunchpail. Take off the glasses Perlow. Stop appologizing for every soviet action. I would be interested in hearing how you explain away the soviet attitude towards soviet jewery. Could you further explain to us your reaction to the East German terrorist training camp? Perhaps you could further enlighten us with your preception of the arming of the Syrians with the only antiaircraft weapons ever placed outside soviet borders (and this before the US ever became involved in the ME). Maybe, when you have finished appologizing for those actions, you could assuage our feelings about why the soviets are maintaining a million man standing army on the Chinese border? Or perhaps you would care to enlighten us as to why the soviets are bombing and straffing Afgan mountain folk into oblivion? Don't bother to answer if all you are going to say is "Well, the US is doing thus and so, so it's OK for the soviets." That kind of argument won't wash. Remember, if it's not Ok for the US, then perhaps it's not OK for the soviets. On the other hand, if you are going to appologize for soviet actions, then I can appologize for US actions. Right? "ROSE COLORED GLASSES FOR SALE" Send $9.95 to Ken Perlow in care of this network. Allow 20 years for delivery. You too can see the soviets as a benign, loving giant who only wants to cuddle the world. Pay no attention to the cracking sounds you may hear, that's only your neck being crushed under the boot. T. C. Wheeler

-- > It certainly is refreshing to see that Ken Perlow has not lost > his naive outlook on life. Soviets are not Mongols. What a line. It certainly is refreshing to see that TC Wheeler hasn't yet learned to read. I stated that Nicaragua was not Mongolia, meaning it (Nicaragua) is a nation quite open to the rest of the world, trading freely (except with the US at the moment), politically neutral. Unlike those countries--like Mongolia--under Soviet domination. (Wasn't I clever to pick one--unlike, say, Albania--that is considered by political scientists really to be under a Communist heel of the Russian variety?) > If it weren't for guys like Perlow to be the appologists for the > soviets, the net would be a dull place. Poor TC, can't even be consistent in his insults (nor even spell them correctly). First I'm a Commie, then I'm a Democrat. Try again, TC, because I'm with you w/r/t both those varieties of self-serving bastard! Oh, I get it TC--you were just taunting me. > Well, Ken, I don't know if you realize this or not, but I don't > know of anyone who thinks that the average Ivan Lunchpail is any > kind of threat or any different than our own Fred Factoryface. > They just live in two different areas of the world. It > is that small percentage who set up groups like technica... Oh, right, we're stoolies of the Russkies. I just love TC's myopia. And he has the chutzpah to call me a dupe. OK, TC, the Senile One says the Sandinistas are a bunch of terrorists, so it must be true, right? > ... Take off the glasses Perlow. Stop > appologizing for every soviet action. I would be interested in > hearing how you explain away the soviet attitude towards soviet > jewery. Could you further explain to us your reaction to the East > German terrorist training camp? Sorry, I need my glasses. I'd suggest that you calm down a little, TC. I detest every piece of Russian foreign policy I've heard of. Including their fingers in Nicaragua. And I have no love for the Sandinistas either. Most of Nicaragua does, though. So, why would I help the Sandinista gov't? My tax dollars are already going to the terrorist contras. I'm outraged but outvoted. A few weeks of my time can't begin to compensate for the damage done by those Somocistas in my name, but it's a start. Call it fair play. > "ROSE COLORED GLASSES FOR SALE" Send $9.95 to Ken Perlow in care > of this network. Allow 20 years for delivery. The only red remaining right now should be on your face for so stupidly misreading my posting. And as for TC's magnanimous offer in my name, yes, *DO* allow a few decades for delivery, and *DO* send the $9.95. I'll forward it to TechNICA. -- *** *** JE MAINTIENDRAI ***** ***** ****** ****** 09 Jul 85 [21 Messidor An CXCIII] ken perlow ***** ***** (312)979-7753 ** ** ** ** ..ihnp4!iwsl8!ken *** ***
