---------------------
So much we have heard in this newsgroup recently about the Arab-Israeli
conflict. Lengthy articles fighting over `which side is more savage' don't
help very much. To find out more and new information about the basic
dividing issues, I recommend the following book:

Taking Sides, America's Secret Relations with a Militant Israel
	 by Stephen Green
Published by William Morrow & Co., New York 1984
	 ISBN: 0-688-02643-5

The "facts" in it come from research with original documents such as
declassified (some of them only partly) notes, telegrams, reports, etc.
from various U.S. government agencies. It is a very worthwhile book to
read. I believe the only reason it has not gotten more publicity is its
critical view of israel's conduct since its birth in 1948. It should throw
some light on basic issues such as:

   1. Who is the agressor and who is the victim?
   2. Does the Israeli government really want peace?
   3. What exactly has been the role of U.S. government in the middle east?

Find out more about the unique U.S.-Israeli relationship which has resulted
in more than $30 billion only in `official' economic and military aid to
Israel since 1946, a country whose citizens are the only foreign nationals
allowed to read the secret reports of the Defense Department's Weapons
Systems Evaluation Group if they have a U.S. security clearance.

P.S. I heard about it on public TV at about 1 AM. A university library is
     more likely to have it.
