[I'm sure you've all been waiting for this...]

  Yes, it's the

RESULTS OF THE NEW YORK STATE INSECT NOMINATIONS
	================================================

[Appropriate trumpet flourishes]

 	Insect Nominations	Comments
	------ -----------	--------
Cockroach 3 I suggested this in my original
					  posting, so no points for
					  originality.
	Firefly 1 No explanation given.
	Flea 1 "Amazing insect." -- E.G. Purcell
Housefly 1 Apt but probably taken.
	Leaf Hopper 1
Lightning bug 1 Is this the same as a firefly?
Monarch butterfly 2 Probably the only one that any
					  Legislature would go for.
					  "Every Empire State needs a
					  Monarch.... Like many NYS
residents, it travels south for the
					  winter." -- Mike Huybensz
Mosquito 1 "The state bird of New Jersey...."
					  -- Nyssa of Traken
New York Jewish 1 "Like the female praying mantis, the
American Princess NYJAP bites the head off of the male
(NYJAP) that mounts her for intercourse.
A common beast." -- Thomas Cox
Slug 1 Not actually an insect.
Tomato Hornworm 1 "It's a really horrible ugly bug; to
me, much worse than a big hairy
spider. The idea is that NY should
face up to the idea that bugs are
					  bugs...." -- Mitch Marks
	Walking stick 1
Worm 1 Not an insect. Not even close.

N.B. Thomas Cox, who nominated the NYJAP, stated that "...Mario Cuomo ought
not be nominated. One shouldn't tempt the masses of the net."

And now, an humourous Python (Monty) quote:

"Rule Number One: No poofters. Rule Two: No member of the faculty shall
maltreat any of the others...if there's anybody watching. Rule Three: No
Poofters. Rule Four: Now listen here, boys: I don't want to catch anybody
not drinking. Rule Five: No poofters! Rule Six: There is NO Rule Six!
Rule Seven: No poofters!"

The opinions expressed above are, in fact, those of the State University of
New York at Buffalo. They just don't know it yet.
