When I read some of the things people are talking about in this group it makes me realise that I'm not really bashing America in comparison. So as the Subject above states this is more of a nudge than a bash. At this time, there is an icebreaker plowing through the Nothwest passage. I think it's called the "Polar Sea" . The thing is, this was intended to be some sort of challenge to Canada's soveriegnty over these waters. I am not up on international law, and maybe there is somebody out there who can clarify this a little. Is this an official challenge or just an example of the US going ahead and ignoring the rights of other nations. Canada is such a wishy-washy country that we seldom do more than protest such actions in a politely worded letter. But the interesting thing is that it is in the best interests of the US itself that these not be considered international waters! You see the US doesn't want those nasty Soviets(:_>) to run around up there with their submarines. If these do become international waters, there will be no reason for objection to such actions. Unless I'm missing something, challenging Canadian sovereignty to these waters is really not a bright thing to do on the part of the US. C'mon guys, don't you know when you've got it good? Cheers, Fred Williams
