I found a good one in net.humor the other day. It makes interesting reading. Rather than reproduce it, and waste a couple of hundred blocks of disk space, I'll just give you the header and you can look it up: Newsgroups: net.politics Path: decwrl!decvax!genrad!mit-eddie!mit-vax!oaf Subject: One Oaf's Opinion [type 'n' now, y'all] Posted: Sat Aug 10 12:41:11 1985 Organization: MIT, Cambridge, MA Keywords: Don Black, a surprising fellow, gone slightly awry... Summary: Ad Hominem: - maybe I am guilty - but only maybe I find the allegations so ludicrous that I won't even dignify them with an answer. What makes this nation strong is the diversity of opionion and the laws that protect free expression. Mr. Feingold has his opinion, and I have mine. There are people in this country who would quash free expression. And there are people who obfuscate. I think it becomes obvious to the net who is who. Let me pass on something for those of you who would be staunch anti- communists. There is more to Communism than meets the eye. Communism is a very deep, insidious cancer. It has many symptoms. Its history dates back far, far further than Marx and Engels. Whenever a person starts digging around too close to the truth, the "flames" start. Then you'll know exactly what you're dealing with. I don't really intend to convince anybody of who I am, where I've been, or my religious/political beliefs. To each his own. But maybe, just maybe, I've made somebody THINK. Maybe somebody will go home and think, "Who are these groups that Black and Feingold are ranting about? What are they saying that's so bad? Why does the ADL jump all over them? Maybe I should read some of their literature and find out." If I get to ONE person, I've done what I set out to do. What's really dangerous is that there's of couple of million people just like me, doing the same thing, only many of them are far more professional and far more dedicated. Sure I draw lightening. I would be more dangerous if I sat back and said nothing. Right now you know where I stand. If I were silent, you wouldn't know what anybody was up to. So look around. Ask yourself if a man is really a Nazi because he doesn't support the Israeli State, or because he doesn't tow the line of the Anti- defamation League. Ask yourself if a man is a KGB agent because he espouses the cause of liberty as put forth in the Declaration of Independence, or because he advocates a return to Constitutional principals. Then take a closer look at who is making those accusations. --Don "the (FILL IN THE BLANK)" Black
