[net.politics] Lunatic fringe

Well, I see the lunatic fringe is at it again in San Francisco. The
Associated Press wire service reported today that a pipe bomb exploded at
the headquarters of the Humanist Party, and two others were found before they
exploded. One was against a wall adjacent to a temple school, and the other
was at the home of a rabbi. Police officials and the rabbi both agreed that
the bombings were not indicative of a rising wave of antisemitism, but
rather were random acts that one would expect on a Jewish holiday.

I personally believe that these amateurish acts were perpetrated by a
single criminally-minded individual who has no connection to any right-
wing group. None of the larger groups in this country would be dumb enough
to pull stunts such as these on a holiday. If it were done in a serious
manner, it would probably be done when it was least expected, with something
larger than a firecracker, and in such a way that there would be very
little latent evidence. And the target would be something with a little
more significance.

I notice, too, that they were placed in such a way that no substantial
damage would be done. To me, this indicates the possibility that the devices
were placed by persons who only intended to discredit the right-wing Anti-
zionist movement in this country. We haven't seen enough real antisemitism,
so some has to be generated. But do it in such a way that no permanent
damage is done.

Remember my little story about the coyote and the pickup truck? That
one came from Pastor Pete Peters out in LaPorte, Colorado. The context
of the entire sermon was that he condemns violence against Jews, and
he used the story allegorically. It's strange how I haven't heard any
condemnations of violence fromthe leaders of the JDL.

When the Institute for Historical Review is bombed, this represents a
Jewish/Communist conspiracy to take over the world. When Jewish or
Humanist institutions are bombed, these are "amateurish acts perpetrated
by an individual who has no connection to any right-wing group". Hmmmm.
