[net.music] Deadheads fighting fascism

While I agree that the analogy between deadheads and Poland is
a bit rediculous, the following anecdote does seem to indicate
some element of truth to that notion:

At the Wednsday night providence show, out in the carpeted area, the
dancing was abrubtly interrupted by a very ugly sight. A big burly
policman was dragging an apparrently terrified young man out of the
arena. It was really not clear why this was happening, but the victim
was putting up a trendous amount of resistance. THe cop was literally
pulling him by his hair and manhandling him in such a way as to cause serious
damage if it continued. The cop had dragged him to the door and the young
man was holding onto the door frame for dear life.

A crowd started to gather around, but everyone was justifiably cautious
about interfering. One brave soul, a man in his mid 30's, approached
the cop and kid and tried to mediate the situation. He pushed the cops
hand away from the kid hair, and picked the kid up by his feet, as
though to help remove him in a more humane manner. But the cop
persisted. Suddenly, the crowd spontaneously approached closer and the
cop, being distracted, let go and the kid got away.

The End.

Wait a minute, let me get this straight. The group of people who say
"Let's swamp the newsgroup with articles so that we get our way and have
our own group", the group of people who promote elitist notions of their
uniqueness and superiority to other groups and who feel they merit their
own special group. *These* are the ones who are *FIGHTING* fascism????
Interesting way to fight it. Sort of the "if you can't beat it, join
it" school of fighting fascism, no?

Sorry if my generalizations offended you, Mr. Dunn, sir. I think I was
rather justified (as you said you were yourself) in being disgusted with
lumping the fans of a rock band who advocate getting high with Polish
freedom fighters who make real sacrifices and struggles. Such a comparison
still makes me sick to my stomach. The "new conservative yuppie in the
BMW type" wasn't meant to apply to EVERYONE (neither was the "drug-crazed
hippies" remark). I was just making an observation that many of the drug
crazed hippies of yesteryear are now the BMW drivers of today. And many
of them are the Dead fans we spoke of. Thus this fantasy image of Deadheads
united to fight fascism in light of this is just that---a fantasy image.
Before I call you a flaming asshole for calling me a flaming asshole, I'll
sign off.

Uh, isn't this net.music?
