The Merry Old England of the 18th century had a lot of freedom. (Also a lot of lawlessness). The laws were many, most of them terrible, but practically no en- forcement apparatus, and the customs were tolerant. Modern bureaucracy was undreamt of. IF we let liberty slip, we are like- ly to end up in a much worse place. Jan Wasilewsky
