[net.politics] On reducing nuclear weaponrym now.

jj@alice.UUCP (10/16/85)

Notice to knee-jerks of all persuasions, DO NOT ASSUME,
READ!!!

James J. Kilpatrick, a conservative syndicated columnist reprinted in many
newspapers in the USA, has (on 10/16 in the Newark Star Ledger,
and therefore undoubtedly other newspapers) a column
titled "A modest proposal to scrap the arms race".

Those knee jerks among you who are still reading should
check out this column (which is copyrighted, hence I will NOT
transcribe it) to see what a mainstream conservative columnist
has to say about nuclear weapons. Those of you who are constantly
referring to the "bomb-them-out-of-existance conservative" may
find that you're not talking about all conservatives, in fact,
you're not talking about conservatives at all, you're talking
about extremists. The "bomb-them-out-of-existance conservatives"
may see another side of an issue from someone who holds the
political persuasion you aspire to.

While I (who have been grandly attacked, called sub-human, and
reviled, even to the point where a poll was taken to see
if I should be harrassed off the net because of the
fact that I was a conservative, and all conservatives
are OBVIOUSLY subhuman) am clearly considered
a conservative, at least by nutnews standards,
(also, by some "conservatives" on the net I'm considered a godless liberal,
pinko, duped wimp, to be fair), I don't necessarily agree
with Kilpatrick on a lot of issues, especially involving
church and state. I DO agree substantially with him on the
issue of nuclear weaponry.

It's time that those who know the difference between
Edward Kennedy and Bill Bradley also learn the
difference between Jesse Helms and Barry Goldwater, and
vice versa.
