Tom Hill continues to claim that "tax revenues are UP", a claim which I have already refuted with a specific reference several times. So far Mr. Hill has never supplied a single reference to back up his claim. Perhaps Tom is confusing an increase in tax revenues from one segment of the population, namely the top 1%, with overall revenues. In 1982 the tax revenues from the top 1% *did increase slightly*. However overall tax revenues declined. Since the top 1% of the population has also been shown to increase their share of the nation's income dramatically in the last few years by several scholarly studies, it is to be expected that their taxes paid should have also increased. That hardly means overall tax revenues have increased. Nor does it account for the natural growth one would expect in tax revenues simply due to inflation. If tax revenues had *increased* then I wonder why even Republicans like Robert Dole have argued that a key part of the deficit problem is a shortfall in tax revenues which requires new taxes. References please, Tom. tim sevener whuxn!orb
