[net.politics] French response to SDI

jedi@cuuxb.UUCP (Stephan M. Adams) (11/13/85)

First of all...I'm a (fairly) conservative member of the GOP, but lately,
have noticed a few problems with our current directions with nuclear arms :

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but didja hear what the French are doing?
They have decided that since the US & USSR are developing defensive weapons,
they need to develop weapons that will defeat them. They are talking about
developing ultra-small, mobile high-intensity nukes. They say that their
only hope for survival is to be able to defeat SDI and it's relatives.

Now, I'm all for a way to get rid of nukes, but as days go by, SDI just
seems to be inciting development of 'better' nukes (if their is such a thing).
It's kind of like the contest between the makers of armor and the makers of
armor-piercing projectiles...when one gets better, the other MUST improve.

So, lets just manage to get some kind of agreement with the Soviets. After
all, Gorbachev has promised to improve the Soviet economy..and to do this he
needs to reduce military spending......
