I don't think it was Falwell. It was some guy named Bailey out in
Oklahoma.
And now a question for Tim Sevener. If you're putting so much
pressure on Reagan to denounce Falwell, when are YOU going to denounce
Jesse Jackson??

Neither one of them. The guy who uttered this little was the leader
of the reactionary conservative faction of the Southern Baptist
Convention.

I believe that statement (or something similar) was made by a former leader
of the Southern Baptist Convention, NOT Jerry Falwell.

Whose name is Bailey Smith out of Dell City, OK

Mr Smith's theological presumption (in my opinion)
is that God ONLY listens to the SALVATION requests(prayers)
of unbelievers (of which Jews are a subset). He backs
this up with several Biblical texts which are stacked in
a way I don't buy. However, I do think Mr. Smith is
representative of a widely held opinion within the SBC.

This seems like a good time to start an informal poll; Has anyone
out there in Netland actually caught Farrakhan's act? I assume everybody
has seen Falwell's. About a month ago a local black affairs program
('As it Is' on ABC I think) aired his show at the Garden. I think most
netters would find it surprising and disturbing. First of all, I dont
think he is really anti-semetic - I do think he is an opportunist who
has read Mein Kampf and believes that he can increase his own power
by dumping on Jews. A lot of his gestures seem to be copied from
newsreel films of Hitler. Also he is clever about is anti-semetic
statements; He never says straight out the Jews are responsible for the
misfortunes of black, but he certainly does imply it. Much of his show
is repetition of "Why do these people speak against me when I am such
a nice guy - maybe they know I am right" or something like it.

He also spends quite a bit of time comparing himself to Martin Luther
King, Malcom X, and Jesus Christ. I expect there will be an
unsuccessful attempt on his life sometime next year. If he is truly
lucky, the JDL will claim credit although he will attribute it to
them irregardless.

On the postive side, he didnt seem to get much applause although I am
sure there where plenty of people wandering around the Garden saying
"He's right you know". And his summation is a fairly inspirational
message without a shred of bigotry - very strange.

Make no mistake - this guy is dangerous and it is obvious is that
pre-emptive strikes like that attempted by NYC officials arent going
to work. So what is the best way to deal with a guy like this?

It was Rev. Smith who said that, not Rev. Falwell.
