Who publishes "The Guardian?"

ekrell@ucla-cs.UUCP (01/05/86)

The Guardian is a left wing british newspaper.

But the one I read is a left-wing Amurcan weekly newspaper published in
NYC. As to whatsisnames question about who the publisher is, maybe Patty
Hearst?

P.S. I can't believe that he posted a one-line question to the world
instead of mailing it to me.

A true statement, but one which might be misleading. The Guardian (formerly
The Manchester Guardian, I believe) is one of the 2 or 3 biggest non-tabloid
national dailies in Britain. Their editorial policies are indeed to the left
of center, but their journalistic reputation is pretty good just the same.

Maybe *A* Guardian is. The one cited is published in New York.
It has an independent, socialist perspective.

I would say: left of center. It is less left-wing than Labor Party.

Only by pretty perverted reactionary standards. Within Britain (and
Europe generally) it's more or less centrist and politically independent.
I guess the people most in tune with it in UK would be the Social
Democrats (drawn about 50-50 from people disappointed with the Tories
and people disappointed with Labour (Socialists)).

Maybe I'm a "perverted reactionary" but from reading the quality
dailies in Britian during a 3 week visit I concluded that the Guardian
was the most left-wing, the Times "moderate", and the Daily Telegraph
(often referred to as "the Daily Torygraph") fairly right-wing.

Granted, you don't see "Resolutely Resist"-style headlines in the Guardian,
but the paper's editorial line seems close to that of the Labour Party
(which can be pretty left-wing, as anyone familiar with the antics of
Tony Benn and Ken Livingston will testify).
