[net.politics] The Sandinista Problem: a response

>I think that when stated in these terms, it's obvious what's wrong with
>this argument. Statements (i.e. that the US finances death squads to kill
>Americans because they stay in Nicaragua) are given without proof, and even
>when there is some truth behind them they are distorted. Important items
>are left out (in the original article, human rights abuses by the Sandinistas,
>in my Nazi analogy, concentration camps) which make the Sandinistas (Nazis)
>look better than they really are. It is also implied that the only reason
>most people who oppose the Saidinistas (Nazis) do so is because of government
>misinformation--anyone supporting the Sandinistas (Nazis) does so because
>they've been to Nicaragua (Germany) or have a source who has, but anyone
>opposing them does so because the US government controls their sources of
>information.

>Ken Arromdee

Alas, I have been flamed by someone I have always admired for their diligent
red-bating and insightful remarks about the Soviet Union. I am hurt.

First, I did not say that we DO finance death squads to kill treasonous
Americans remaining in Nicaragua, only that I think it's a good idea.

Second, there is no need for me to detail the evils of the Sandinistas.
As I said from the outset, I think they must go. I'm on Ken's side.
There is plenty of info posted by Ken Arromdee, Ron Rizzo, and others
who share my desire to see them go.

Third, I didn't say people oppose the Sandinistas because they are misinformed.
I certainly don't consider myself misinformed. I oppose the Sandinistas.
What I said was that we must cut back on Sandinista SUPPORT by increasing
control over the information. We can't let just anyone speak favorably
about the Sandinistas and get away with it.

Finally, I did not say that all Sandinista supporters have been to Nicaragua.
I said the biggest threat, the prime source of supportive info, are those
who have been there. I said this because every piece of favorable information
I have seen came from Americans and journalists living in or returning from
Nicaragua (I don't read Pravda). This information must be controlled lest
Americans at home are misled by it.

I must say, though, that I support Ken Arromdee and everything he does here
on the net. Note the elegant way he associates the Sandinistas with Nazis.
I take my hat off.
