I have tried my best not to be a Reagan basher in my discussions but unfortunately that can no longer continue. Unlike Mr Sevener I do not think Ronald Reagan is a pathological liar. I believe he knows exactly what he is saying and he must be stopped. The man came out and said that Nicaragua is supporting rebels in Brazil. This came as a great shock to the Brazilian government as their is no rebellion going on. In fact the leaders of the last rebellion are now part of the government. He again reiterated the "fact" that the Nicaraguans are supplying the Colombian M19 faction which the Colombian government says is totally false. His attacks on people who disagree with him are of the lowest sort of demagoguery since Joesph McCarthy. I do not agree that a smear campaign for whatever reason can ever be good. If your belief can not stand on its own merit then let it fall. The way the last attack came out is if you don't stand behind Ronald Reagan and the contras then you are a Communist. Showing a map showing the Americas turn red because of Nicaragua is nonsense. There is no other nation that supports our moves against the present government in Nicaragua and yet we continue. The people in the US do not support the administrations present moves (This by his own admission) yet he continues. What will get this man to stop his sophomoric attitude towards the world. Now we have a war with Libya or a series of clashes. These clashes should not have occurred. The president did this to precipitate exactly what has happened. They knew what Khaddafi would do (or are they really stupid :-) and yet they decided to risk Americans lives to stand tall. This false bravado only hurts the US image in the rest of the world. I say Congress must act and act now. They must order the removal of the ships from the Gulf of Sidra and turn down his aid to the contras. If we continue at the rate we are going we will soon be at war with Libya and Nicaragua. Coming Soon The Gulf of Sidra Resolution. Brian Mahoney. PS This is not meant as an attack against those who support contra aid. This is an attack against the lies and demagoguery used to try to get that aid.

Are you saying that we should have gone along with Khaddafi and never again entered that section of the Mediterranean? Maybe we should annex the Gulf of Mexico now and get in on the act? > I say Congress must act and act now. But I really don't think allowing nations to claim all of the oceans and seas which lie within concave coastlines is a very good precedent to set. > > Brian Mahoney. -- Jeff Sonntag ihnp4!mhuxt!js2j
