ron@uthub.UUCP (Ron Wessels) (12/18/85)
We are in the process of constructing new /etc/hosts and /etc/networks files based on the official ARPA-approved network numbers we have been allocated. Please send mail to me (ron@uthub) if you are or will be the system administrator of a system connected to one of the U. of T. local-area networks. Requests for blocks of numbers for future machines will also be accepted. Please also state your affiliation or department, so that the hosts can be ordered in some semi-logical manner. Since this is a radical change in networking, in order not to isolate machines, this change will have to be made on all machines all on the same day. This is tentatively scheduled to occur early in the new year, before classes begin. Please send your request in soon; late requests will not be acted on quickly. Currently, we have the following networks defined: csri-ethernet 192.12.174 hubnet 192.12.175 ecf-ptpnet 192.12.176 # Point-to-point networks utcs-ethernet 192.12.177 scar-ethernet 192.12.178 utcs-ptpnet 192.12.179 # Point-to-point networks mike-pronet 192.12.180 rob-pronet 192.12.181 sid-pronet 192.12.182 reserved 192.12.183 As a final note: just because we have official ARPA-approved network numbers does *NOT* mean that we are now connected to the ARPANET. It does mean that we are one step closer, though. -- Ron Wessels Computer Systems Research Institute University of Toronto UUCP: {decvax,floyd,ihnp4,linus,utzoo,uw-beaver}!utcsri!ron CSNET: ron@Toronto ARPA: ron%Toronto@CSNet-Relay
