A warning to those who park their bikes outside: (especially in the "safe" phi-shaped security units, on SF's north side) Someone apparently tried to steal my rear derailleur last night: The control cable was cut and the derailleur was unbolted from the frame. Fortunately, all the parts are still there, meaning that this "don't leave the bike outside overnight" lesson will not be THAT expensive... And another word of wisdom from the already burned...use a Kryptonite type lock. Boltcutters will go thru *any* type of cable or chain that you can put on your bike, unless you want a hernia carrying around a 10 kilo chain and lock. "Hardened steel" padlock means that you need a boltcutter one size larger to get through it, that's all. -- ----------------- Paul Shindman, U of T Computing Services, Toronto (416) 978-6878 USENET: {ihnp4|decvax}!utcs!shindman BITNET: paulie at utoronto IP SHARP MAIL: uoft
