[ut.general] SPSS/PC & 8087 CoProc. - question

gbs@utgpu.UUCP (09/11/87)

I'm trying to run spss/pc on a plain pc (not even xt) with an 8087
math CoProcessor. SPSS claims that it will warn you if the CoProc.
is installed but the switches are not set properly; I am getting
such a warning when I start it up, except the switch
(#2 on switch block 1) is set in (what the IBM manual says is )
the correct position (ie ON) to indicate the presence of the coprocessor.
when I set the switch to OFF and reboot SPSS makes no complaint
when it starts. The possibilities at this point are
1> The IBM Manual got its switch settings backwards (unlikely I think)
2> SPSS sees the switch on and the coprocessor in and complains erroniously
3> SPSS can't tell if the coprocessor is in, it just looks at the switch
so if the switch is off it will run, but I get no use out of my 8087.
4> there are yet more switches I have yet to discover and set.

Basic system info: PC, 384KB, 20MB Harddrive (off which spss is run)
SPSS/PC v1.10 (stuff that should have no effect: ethernet card, 2 floppies
someones extra-mem/ports/clock board).

Any ideas ?

Thanks.
