[ut.general] Encore terminal server demo and multiprocessor talk

ruth@utstat.UUCP (09/22/87)

Ted White, a marketing type person from Encore, will be in Toronto
on October 19th and 20th. Encore is trying to break into the Canadian
market (well, they have; we just ordered an Annex terminal server).
He is interested in talking to people about both the Annex terminal server
and about Encore's parallel processing computer, the multimax.

Tentative plans call for Mr. White to install our terminal server on
the morning of the 19th. This will allow him to demonstrate how
easy it is to install, and its wonderful capabilities. In the afternoon
he is interested in giving a presentation on the multimax.

If interested people would like to send me e-mail, I will try to keep
people posted as to times, dates and locations. Please let me know
which of the two products you are interested in, and some indication
of how serious you are (so I'll know if I'm in trouble over room
allocations).

According to Mr. White: The multimax is a multiprocessor with shared memory,
doing parallel processing. The computer is easily expandable and takes
from 2 to 20 processors (they come 2 to a board). Its operating system
is Unix based. It has 128Mb main memory. Price range is $100,000 up
(he gave me a top price of $700,000). Prices are $ US. He claims 1 1/2
to 40 mips, depending on the number of processors.
