[ut.general] Demo of Domesday Video; use of CD's for data storage

ruth@utstat.uucp (Ruth Croxford) (01/17/88)

Olivetti will be giving a demo of it Domesday video on January 25th at
10 a.m., in the Dean's Conference Room on the second floor of the Medical
Sciences Building (in the vicinity of the cafeteria). The Domesday project
was an attempt to capture all aspects of life in Britain in, I think, the
1960's. The information is stored on CD's, and consists of maps of Britain,
with the ability to zoom in on a given area on the map to see what the
area looks like, then zoom in further, say on a certain building and take
a look at the activities inside.

The demo may be of interest to people in Urban Geography, Sociology, etc,
and perhaps to people interested in storing and retrieving data from CD's.

For more information, please phone Michael Paul at 978-8912 or Garrett
Lumchick at 7171. They work for Technical Services in the MSB and are
the ones who have arranged for the demo.
