I'm looking for a project to do as a computer science project course this summer, and I was wondering if any of you people had projects that might be suitable. I'm especially interested in compilers, operating systems, windowing systems, user interfaces, and networks. I'm a fairly experienced programmer; I know C and 68000 assembly language fairly well (and I know more about 8088 assembly than I want to :-)), and have experience programming Amigas, Macs (a little bit), and Unix. I've also got a fair amount of experience modifying and porting software. To give you an idea of the kinds of projects I'd like to do, here's a list of some things I'd like to work on: Porting the Blit software to the Amiga Porting BSD 4.3 to the National Semiconductor ICM Working in SmallTalk or C++ (two languages I've always wanted to learn) Porting GNU C and/or GNU C++ to new machines Porting X Windows or NeWS to new machines I'll be free during the daytime this summer, so I could come down to the UofT to work on hardware there; I also have an Amiga and a Unix box at home, so I could work there or via modem. So, if you have a project that needs an extra person, or that you haven't had the manpower for, and that could be done for a project course, drop me a line! I can be reached electronically at the address in my signature, or by voice at 654-5653 (usually after 7pm), or by calling my Unix box (at 654-8854, 24hrs) and sending me email. -- "I shall clasp my hands together and bow to the corners of the world."
