[ut.general] UofT's UNIX source license

drg@csri.toronto.edu (Dave Galloway) (05/17/88)

The university has a UNIX source license with AT&T that allows us to get the
source for various versions of UNIX. The licence lists all of the machines
on campus that are allowed to have (or use) UNIX source. The current license
is for System V release 3.0.

AT&T has a newer version of UNIX called System V release 3.1. We can get the
university's license upgraded to this version for $1200 US. While we are at
it, they will allow us to add as many machines as we like to the license.
Normally, it costs about $400 to add a machine to the license.

If you have recently purchased a UNIX machine, and you haven't gotten around
to adding it to the license, now is your chance. Send a letter to Eugene
Sicunias, UTCS, listing the manufacturer, model number, serial number and
room number of each machine you want to add. Eugene will be asking for
donations towards the $1200 cost.

Special note to SUN owners: SUN will only sell the source for SUNOS 4.0
to people with UNIX V.3.1 licenses. If you want SUNOS 4.0 source, the
university license will have to be upgraded.
