With the new connectivity that our campus is enjoying at the moment, it is approriate that we have a meeting to discuss the new connections and what kinds of changes we have to make to the networking methods we have used in the past. We hope to cover these topics (at least): 1) Routing on Campus: - general techniques for hosts and gateways - routing policy 2) Electronic Mail: - how to talk to the Internet - local hacks to standard methods 3) Name Servers: - everybody needs to know about these beasties now 4) New Utilities: - telnet, ftp, rsh, rlogin utilities that use the name servers 5) Production Service for Onet, NSFnet, and ARPAnet. - what to expect in the way of performance and reliability - how to discover if there is a problem - who to call if there is a problem 6) Misuse: - what do we consider misuse? - how we can discourage it - how we can punish it 7) Local Archives: - how we can avoid duplication and waste of bandwidth A room has been arranged to have a general meeting about these and any other issues regarding the new networks we can now reach. The scheduled date is TUESDAY NOVEMBER 15th GB244 (Galbraith) 2-4pm. This meeting is primarily intended for systems administrators who will have to know some of this stuff in order to help their users make good use of the new connectivity.
