The deadline for entries for the 1989 EDUCOM/NCRIPTAL Higher Education Software Awards is 27 March 1989. These awards are give to "reward outstanding software packages and effective curricular implementations of computing in undergraduate higher education," according to the NCRIPTAL (National Center for Research to Improve Postsecondary Teaching And Learning) announcement letter. Awards for Best Curriculum Innovation and Implementation will be given for projects that address problems in writing, laboratory sciences, underprepared students, and large lecture courses. Awards for Best Software are available under the following categories: tutorial, simulation, tools, and integrated. Awards are given for both Best and Distinguished software. The award for a "Best" projects last year was $5,000 US and a trophy; the award for the "Distinguished" projects was $500 US and a plaque. A total of 182 entries was received, and 19 were identified as "Distinguished". Ten entries were then selected from the nineteen, and awarded "Best" classification.
