The list.* and bitnet.* news groups are simply mailing lists we inject into
local news.  The distribution is intended to be limited to the UofT campus.
As far as I know, neither ANT/CSRI nor UTCS has issued any rmgroup commands for
list.* or bitnet.*.  A few lists have probably dried up, but I don't know if
any of us have time to worry about it right now.

Who knows, maybe your note will encourage someone to clean up the local 
groups...

Our active file carries many a rogue group -- but it doesn't really hurt 
anything.  I clean it up every few months...
