Gah. Someone has a compressed tar file for me on a vms sytem. When I
ftp it the format evidently gets munged: compress doesn't recognize it
as a binary file (and yes, I set binary mode in ftp).
Does anyone have any suggestions as to whether it's possible to de-vms
the thing on my end or have some magic ftp trick? I don't think my
contact on the other end is very unix literate so I'd prefer to do it
myself if at all possible. (Apparently at least some people have been
successful at grabbing the thing, maybe they ftp'd from a vms site){
