[net.arch] High Speed Floating Point Minis

solworth (10/26/82)

We are interested in obtaining information on computers which have
floating point (approx. 64 bits) performance a magnitude greater
than the VAX 11/780 with a price range is under $750K. A system that
runs UNIX(tm) would be preferable, but not a necessity.

We have seen some information on Elexsi and SEL. The Elexsi claims
to be a 4MFLOPs machine. I don't know what the performance of the
SEL is, but they claim to have UNIX.

Can anybody comment on these machines or others that meet the requirement.
In particular:

Are functioning machines (including software) available?
	What are the ratings?
	What do they costs?
	How ugly is their software?

Thanks,
					Jon
