Content-addressable memories (CAMs) have vast numbers of applications if only they were large enough or affordable enough. I'm surprised that there have been no new CAM IC's on the market in the past five years, since the technology has improved tremendously to the point where such the design and production would be trivial. While the IC manufacturers are busy making special-purpose widgets for controlling automatic fubars, here's a general-purpose chip that has the potential to increase performance by multiple magnitudes, and no one is interested in making them. Imagine what you could do with a $50 2Kx8 CAM!!! -- Ken Turkowski @ CADLINC, Palo Alto, CA UUCP: {amd70,decwrl,flairvax}!turtlevax!ken
