I'm currently working on analysing different disk buffering requirements and techniques. Is anyone else out there pursuing these matters too? If so, would you mind swapping info? I really hate duplicating duplicating work thats already been done. Thanks. John Cigas UC San Diego

#R:sdcsvax:-15200:ima:4600001:000:407 ima!johnl Oct 3 10:02:00 1984 When looking at disk cacheing, don't neglect the heavily buffered hardware (well, firmware) buffering in modern disk controllers. For example, last week IBM announced a new version of their 3880 disk controller with up to 32 megabytes of RAM cache, implemented with 256K DRAMS. It transfers to and from main memory at 3MB/sec. Now, there's a disk controller for real men. John Levine, ima!johnl
