[] Sachio Kamiya visited the NASA Ames Research Center on Oct. 15 to discuss followons to the FACOM VP-200 supercomputer now marketed in the USA under the Amdahl label. Mr. Kamiya is on the software side of the Japanese High Speed Computer Project which promises to deliver 10 GFLOPS by 1990. He is touring the country to access the demand for supercomputing. The OS will probably not be IBM compatible, but might not be UNIX either. The principal programming language will be FORTRAN 8X for compatibility. Compilers should perform automatic partitioning (both across CPUs and memory and by software pipelines). The hardware will be multiprocessor, but I cannot say more due to restrictions on discussion (gentleman's agreement). I have been burned by management once before in this newsgroup because of something I posted. [Free exchange of scientific information]. If you are associated with one of the existing multiprocessor, or supercomputer groups in the world [if I know of your group, or you explain what you are doing in your research], I will give individuals a more detailed, but safe, discussion. --eugene miya NASA Ames Res.
