NASA is announcing the solicitation of research proposals for the
Goddard Space Flight Center's Massive Parallel Processor [MPP].
The MPP consists of 128 bit serial processing elements on a side
processor array [16K total PEs].  There is a 128 bit wide data path
to a VAX 780 [VMS] front end and disk subsystem.  It is programmed
using a parallel MPP Pascal.

The MPP was orginally designed with weather satellite image processing, but
other applications and research are possible.  The purpose of this
solictation is to find these applications and determine new concepts such
as algorithms and the like.
