[net.arch] Intel 286 "C" Benchmark

[Munch a bunch]

With all the talk lately about what constitutes a fair benchmark, I
thought I would ask a "silly" question. Would those that are making
these benchmarks please tell us what hardware you are using. Are we
to assume that all memory costs the same (16 MHZ for a 68K is awful
fast for memory to be cheap)? Does the 68K have an MMU attached? It
seems to me that since the 286 has an MMU built in, then no fair test
can be made against a 68K unless it too has an MMU. Are these BUSS systems
where some delay's are placed by the buss itself? Ect? ect?

What Im trying to say is that benchmarks are more or less garbage unless
the underlying hardware is understood. It seems difficult for me that
a discussion can actually take place which focuses on software without
the hardware implications.

No stand taken. I just want to know.
