One of the people who worked on the MU5 at Manchester told me that
the "find first bit set" instruction which worked on a bit vector
sometimes overshot if there was a long set of 0's, trouble was that
the disk block allocation was done with 1's to mark free blocks, on
a full disk somebody's block might just vanish.
