It implements small model (64K everything) and "mini"-model (64K code, 64K data/heap/stack) ala pdp-11's. with 512K memory, it runs quite quickly secure. Its C compiler produces efficient code, and overall is a nice single user system. Of course assembler code can cause it to crap out, but this is part of the pudding. I have to take exception to this last statement. The dhrystone's for this compiler put it at the bottom of the heap for IBM PC/XT C compilers: * IBM PC/XT 8088-4.77Mhz PC/IX cc 257 287 * IBM PC/XT 8088-4.77Mhz COHERENT 2.3.43 MarkWilliams cc 296 317 * IBM PC/XT 8088-4.77Mhz Venix/86 2.0 cc 297 324 * IBM PC/XT 8088-4.77Mhz Venix/86 SYS V cc 339 377 * IBM PC/XT 8088-4.77Mhz PCDOS 2.1 Wizard 2.1 367 403 * IBM PC/XT 8088-4.77Mhz PCDOS 3.1 Lattice 2.15 403 403 @ * IBM PC/XT 8088-4.77Mhz PCDOS 2.1 Microsoft 3.0 390 427 If there are better results obtainable from PC/IX, by all means send them to me.
