Can someone recommend a good source for the "official" S-100 bus interface spec? Also, is there more than one standard (like a bidirectional 16-bit data bus versus a dual unidirectional 8-bit data bus)? Do these things have IEEE standard numbers? Any references to magazines, books, or other publications would be greatly appreciated. Thanx, Vince ihnp4!uiucdcs!guarna

Sure, Its IEEE696 (1983) available from the IEEE (345 E. 47th St. NY, NY 10017). But dont expect too much from it,while lots of improvements got made, there are still timing problems Steve Kootstra (hplsdlu!steve)

S100 = IEEE-696 Standard. I don't have the address of the IEEE handy, but you should be able to get it. Yes, the data bus changes definition for 16 bit transfers. Normally there is an 8 bit write and 8 bit read bus (allowing TMA bidirectionally if supported), but when the SIXTN (pin 60) is active, the data bus becomes a unidirectional 16 bit bus. -- -bill davidsen seismo!rochester!steinmetz!--\ / \ ihnp4! unirot ------------->---> crdos1!davidsen \ / chinet! ---------------------/ (davidsen@ge-crd.ARPA) "It seemed like a good idea at the time..."
