[net.arch] 80386 vs. 68020

I am not sure if this is the righ newsgroup for this question but here it
goes:

With the avaiblity of low-cost 80386 machines, I am wondering how
they compare with 68020 based systems. Would a 16 MHZ 80386 processor
outperform a 16.67 MHZ 68020? How about 68030?

I know performance is a relative term and highly application dependent.
But, I am just looking for rough figures and distinct differences
in each design. For example, dose the 80386 cache instructions
like the 68020? If so, how large and effective is the cache?
How many cycles do typical instructions use (e.g. load/store, branch).
What other issues are involved?

Intel claims that their machine is faster than a Sun 3/160 (68020 at 16.67Mhz).
How much meat is there in their claim?
