We (group of 6 people) are considering to buy workstation class computer, and I need your opinion not as a salesman but as a user. 1. We have about 50k to spend. (Some company give university discount.) 2. We are doing tons of time series analysis. 3. One people want to do numerical modelling during the night. He needs at least VAX 8600 + FPA floating point performance. 4. We can't have operator. 5. We need reliable hardware and software support. (We can't wait 2 - 3 days to fix a problem.) 6. Machine has to have ethernet interface to transfer file from main frame. (We don't want to have half inch tape drive.) 7. We need about 300 mb disk storage. 8. Good graphic software for Tek terminal is desirable. 9. Laser printer driver for text and graphics is needed.
