Two weeks ago, I posted an "Ada popularity poll" to the Usenet groups net.lang and net.lang.ada. I had read a claim that "Ada is already the preferred language in almost all American universities." Sixteen people responded with an opinion of their university's CS department. The results were: 0 A) prefer Ada above all other programming languages 2 B) view Ada as ONE of the preferred languages 3 C) like Ada, but prefer other language(s) 4 D) dislike Ada 7 E) not care/not use It was hard to classify a few votes as "dislike" or "don't use:" there's overlap between the categories. A few people thought the poll should extend beyond CS departments. If you didn't respond because you don't "represent" a CS department, send me your opinion anyway. If the vote pattern changes significantly, I'll summarize again. At this point, I the "preferred language" claim looks like wishful thinking. Thanks for your help.
