[net.lang.ada] Hands-on Ada Programming Course

     A ten-day Hands-on Ada Programming course will be given from 
January  6 to January 17,  1985 by the  Professional  Development 
Seminar Committee of the Washington,  D.C.  Chapter of ACM.   The 
course  will be held at the Rosslyn Holiday Inn,  1850 North Fort 
Myer   Drive   in  Arlington,   VA,   22209   (703-522-0400   for 
reservations).

     The  course  objective  is a detailed  introduction  to  the 
effective  application  of Ada and includes  the  background  and 
development  of  Ada,  detailed presentation of the concepts  and 
features in the context of modern software engineering,  and  the 
opportunity   to   develop  practical  skills  through   hands-on 
exercises.

     The  course  will be taught on an Eclipse MV  4000  computer 
made  available  with  six workstations at no cost  by  the  Data 
General  Corporation.   The course will use the ROHM/DGC ADE  Ada 
development  environment with a validated Ada compiler and a tool 
set  hosted on the AOS/VS operating system.   The system will  be 
available until 8:00PM class days and on Saturday in addition  to 
class time.

     Helmut  Thiess is the course organizer and lead  instructor.  
Mr.  Thiess  is  an Asst.  Professor of Computer and  Information 
Sciences  at  Towson  State  University and  a  lecturer  at  the 
University of Maryland.   Dr.  George W.  Cherry will present the 
tasking section.

     Class  materials  are "Software Engineering with Ada" by  G. 
Booch,  "Parallel  Programming  in ANSI Standard Ada"  by  G.  W. 
Cherry,   ANSI/MIL-STD-1815A  (Ada  Programming  Language),   and 
Eclipse AOS/VS and ADE Ada manuals.
