[net.lang.ada] ADA compilers on PC's, Macintosh?

Are there any ADA compilers for IBM PC's or Macintosh?

I just saw an ad in Byte for the Artek Ada compiler for the IBM PC. I
haven't seen anything for the Mac yet, but I would think it's now too far
down the road. There was a Janus Ada compiler out not too long ago. From
what I've heard, it was about as close to real Ada as is APL :-). The Artek
Ada compiler promises to implement everything except tasking which of course
means it's not validated (I know, I know, it's not legal Ada). There are a
lot of other promises for IBM PC Ada, but none have been validated as far as
I know.

Specs on the Artek compiler

IBM-PC with 384K or RAM
Running MS-DOS or PC-DOS (2.0 or later)
One double sided floppy drive
Price $895.00 - Demo Disk 29,95

Artek Corporation
100 Seaview Drive
Secaucus, NJ 07094
Phone 1-800-PC-ARTEK or 1-201-867-2900 in NJ

Disclaimer: I in no way have any interest in or relation with Artek. I am
             posting this as public information.

The Ada-Jovial LCF newsletter, Vol 8, Number 1, Jan 86, shows (page 9)
an Ada compiler by ALSys which is hosted on an IBM PC/AT under MS/DOS
and generates code for an IBM PC/AT under MS/DOS ... contact:

In the Feb. 86 issue of Byte, there is an ad for the Artek Ada compiler for
the IBM PC (or compatible) computer that runs under MS-DOS and 384K RAM.
The ad also stated that the compiler implements all major features of
Ada except tasking (isn't this a violation of Ada's copywrite?). It costs
$895.

Another venor is General Transformation Corporation which has an Ada compiler
for the PC XT and AT. The language is supposed to be in validation REAL SOON,
and costs $1000 for the XT and $1200 for the AT.

Yet another vendor is General Systems Corporation which sells a (subset?)
Ada compiler on a card for the PC, XT, and AT. I believe they use the
Irvine Compiler Corporation compiler for this. Its price: $2695.

(Oh yeah, there's Janus Ada for 99.00 but it doesn't really count.)

As for the Macintosh, the only compiler I know of was one mentioned in
the first issue of _Wheels for the Mind_ (the Apple University
Consortium newsletter). It mentioned that Sedgewick (sp?) or somebody and
Brown University were working on a port of an existing compiler. Anyone
else know anything on this?

(I have no connection with any of these companies. I'm just waiting for
the day that quality Ada compilers are available on Macintoshes for
the same price as Turbo Pascal.)
