[net.lang.ada] Export Control info package

harbaughs@eglin-vax.UUCP (07/15/86)

After a few phone calls I learned this much:
1. Ada and custom computer chips export control regulations fall under
the juristicon of Office of Munitions Control, State Dept.
2. They have an information package which I have ordered by
calling (703)235-9770 and requesting it. Delivery is supposed to
be about one week. No charge.
3. I was told about the package by a lady who answered
(703)235-9773. She was sure that Munitions Control was the
licensing authority for Ada and custom chips and "Yes, she had heard
of Ada.".
4. I was given the Munitions Control telephone number by the Dept. of
Commerce person in Orlando Florida who said that first I must
determine if the licensing authority was Dept of Commerce or
Munitions Control and if Munitions denied having control then
Dept. of Commerce would have it by default. He assures me that he isn't
giving me the bureacratic run-around. I asked if the penalties maight
be less than the cost of the phone calls and he assured me that
I didn't even want to know what the penalties are.
I can envision someone in the middle of a desert on a dark night
selling Ada code to an oil shiek whose cruise missile is
malfunctioning. Maybe James Bond instantiating the correct generic
as the countdown readout reaches 007.
