So far there's been two open (that i know of). Killington in Vermont, and Jiminy Peak in Berkshires of Mass. Killington's been open since the 16 of October and Jiminy Peak open this past weekend. Jiminy Peak has been using their SNOCOAT, which up to now, has enabled them to make up to 1 foot of snow on a 1200 foot trail. Not bad considering it's only been below freezing at night. Sunday night the area stirred up the air and the moisture content on the mountain and the temperature there actually rose to the point where they had to stop at 3am. I haven't been able to get a report on Killington but would like to know - anybody heard? In the Boston area Boston Hills ski area has something new, called "Perma-snow". I've been told it's pretty hard to fall on and that it's kinda slow - but it is skiing. Brodie Mountain, Jiminy's rival, has been making snow at a furious rate to keep up with the competition but hasn't opened yet. Anyone here of other places opening up around here? The forecast for the area calls for slightly warmer temperatures (50's) for the next few days and mild nights, and possibly getting back to the winter temps by the end of the week. Happy skiing! <barry at decvax!wivax!evans>
