Fellow schussboomers, Today, I saw a heli-skiing movie put on by our company ski club and I'm hooked. This is actually something I have wanted to do for a while but I'm now willing (and able?) to make the monetary sacrifice. I'm pretty sure that I want to go to the Canadian Rockies (Bugaboos(sp?), Cariboos(sp?), Monashees(sp?)). If anybody out there has gone or knows somebody who has gone heli-skiing, could you please help me out with some information. Specifically: 1. Do you have anything good or bad to say about specific heli-guide operations? 2. What are the accommodations/food like? 3. Is there any problem going on a trip as a single (e.g. cost, rooming arrangements (I don't mind pairing up))? 4. What is the probability of poor snow/weather for an entire week? 5. What is the probability of getting stuck with a novice in the group slowing everyone down? 6. How much travel time is involved and what mode of transportation is needed (car, bus, plane, snowmobile, train, dogsled, snowshoes) from the nearest major airport? 7. What is the best time of year to go? I suspect Feb/Mar. Do January or April have good conditions? I learned how to ski in Utah so I have powder experience but now, alas, I live in NJ (East definitely loses in the skiing department). I do appreciate any help. THINK SNOW!
