I was in Snowmass for a week last March, on business; stayed at the Wildwood Inn, had no car, and conducted business most evenings, so comments re. nightlife are unavailable. However, the food at the Village (right near the Wildwood) was excellent, especially the Stew Pot (or some such name: stew, stew, and more stew!). Skiing was wonderful, with powder, and, if I recall, some moguls. One of the prime attractions was skiing in the powder through the trees off the Big Burn. Ahhhh. But, if I don't stop now, I'll next be seen heading downhill..... Alan M. Marcum Fortune Systems, Redwood City, California ...!hplabs!hpda!fortune!rhino!marcum

#R:uokvax:8200002:hpfclk:9900004:000:1064 hpfclk!paul Nov 11 08:48:00 1983 Info on Snowmass I have skiied Snowmass once at Easter 2 years ago. I really enjoyed it. It is a large area with lots of long cruiser blue runs and some neat tree skiing. It has, I believe, only a couple of "black" runs; they are not the same black as, say, a black run, at Aspen Mountain. It will take you 2 days to ski the whole place. It also has some gorgeous views of the Aspen Snowmass wilderness areas; I belive you can see the Maroon Bell from the top of the area. Go into Aspen for some great nightlife; it's only about 5 miles or so and DEFINITELY worth the trip (buses run between Aspen and Snowmass quite regularly). If you get tired of Snowmass skiing, go either to Aspen Mountain or Aspen Highlands for some challenging terrain. Aspen Mountain (referred to as Ajax locally) is definitely the place to go for good steep bump skiing. Snowmass has very little in the way of bumps - it's mainly a resort for the out of state recreational skiier. Hope you have a great time!!! -Paul "Face Plant" Beiser- {csu-cs,hplabs,hpfcla}!paul

Uh, Snowmass is just next door (relatively) to Aspen. Does that answer your questions about nightlife & skiing conditions? A Lake Tahoe skier, Erik E. Fair {ucbvax,amd70,zehntel,unisoft}!dual!fair Dual Systems Corporation, Berkeley, California

I second Ron's idea. I think it would be great if we reviewed the area after we skiied it. This is usually a dead group anyway.
