[net.rec.ski] Advice on Colorado Skiing and lodgings

warren@ihnss.UUCP (12/06/83)

I am looking for advice on a short (4-5 day) ski trip in mid march.
We have no experience with the area and would appreciate any
suggestions by mail to ihnss!warren. We were fair skiers by Eastern
standards years ago, but haven't skied much in 5 years. I am
intersted in advice on ski areas and local accomodations.
Our preferences/constraints are:

Important:

1)	Maximal intermediate slopes. No deep powder, very
steep grades or high moguls, but enough pitch to be
	interesting and prefereably long runs.

2)	Proximity to Denver (2 hour drive is fine, 4 hour is
probably not). Vail, Breckenridge, Keystone and Winter Park
appear to be within the constraint on my map.

3)	Reasonably priced accomodations. (Would prefer small condo
	to avoid some restaurant meals.)

Unimportant or negative factors:

1)	Non-skiing activities (nightlife, other sports, etc.) These
are negative if the increase cost or create disturbances.

2)	Instructional programs and/or special events. (Negative if
they draw crowds or close off skiable trails).

3)	Package tours (Our transportation is separate and We would
just as soon fend for ourselves on food, but lift/lodging
packages are fine if the price is cometitive).

Feel free to send advice/suggestions to ihnss!warren

I want to arrange this soon, so if this does not reach you before
12/9, don't bother to reply!

I think we can afford to have replies done with followups on this news
group. I am intereasted, as is everyone who reads this group, in skiing
in CO. Well, perhapse some people in Europe and Australia could care
less.
That brings up an intereasting subject for the people in Australia. I
wonder how the skiing is in New Zeland. I suppose this is not the season
down there, but just the same, I wonder how it is. Anyone for Australia
subscribe to this group?
