#N:hpfclk:9900012:000:655 hpfclk!paul Dec 22 07:26:00 1983 A note on backcountry bindings. Last year I used (unsuccesfully) some Normark bindings (I have Fischer Europa 99 STs and Asolo Snowfields). I had problems blowing out of them about 1-2 times per day. Other tall people I have talked with have similar tales of woe; it seems that shorter people do not generate sufficient torque to pull the bail out of the bindings. This year I had a pair of the Asolo bindings (with riveted bails) put on my skis, and after 4 pretty good days of skiing, I have yet to come out of them. Anyone else out there have anything to add? (this group has been comatose long enough!) Paul Beiser ...hplabs!hpfcla!paul

I also have Europa's with Normark bindings and use Asolo Extreme boots. To this date, the only time my bindings have released is when I cross my tip over the release tab in the middle of a telemark turn -- results are quite predictable. Note that there are different bails for the Normarks ... the Asolos should use the orange ones. Have any of you pinners tried the Voile bindings? These were developed here in the Wastch and are made by local skiers who wanted to parallel through the deep stuff on skinny skis. I tried some yesterday up at one of the resorts on hardpacked bordering on ice and was impressed! Do give it a shot! Happy Turns and beware of snow snakes! Chuck Hansen {...!utah-cs!hansen}
