[] I am a beginner to intermediate skier and have been shopping around for a good pair of skis. With all other sports I have taken up, I have enjoyed most success by getting myself the best equipment and growing into it, rather than buying intermediate equipment and growing out of it. It is the same with skiing. I am looking for a pair of detuned GS racers (200-205cm long) and hope to get myself another pair (thoroughbred racers, this time) at the end of this season. From what information I gathered, I found that skis made by Volkl seem to be pretty good. When I contacted the local dealer he told me that when he took on the dealership for Volkl he had to sign a written agreement with Volkl agreeing not to discount their lineup or put their skis on discount sales. As a result, he told me that I would get a much better deal on his other skis as opposed to the Volkls. Is this accepted Volkl marketing strategy, or is my local dealer a special case? I also found that Volkl does not advertise as much as the other major brands. Does Volkl cater to the semi-exclusive market like LaCroix does? Anybody out there who owns Volkls care to comment on their skis, and the lineup in general (good, bad or otherwise)? Any suggestions for good detuned racers (Volkl or other)? Comparison evaluations welcomed. Please reply by mail. I will summarize to the net if response is good. Thanks in advance. -- David Jayakaran uucp: ...{decvax,hao,ihnp4,seismo}!noao!terak!david phone: 602 998 4800 us mail: Terak Corporation, 14151 N 76th street, Scottsdale, AZ 85260
