[net.rec.ski] still another western trip debate

fdf@houxa.UUCP (Franklin Fite) (10/31/84)

A month or two ago, I requested information on western ski resorts.
We, a group of 8-10 intermediate skiers, have definitely decided to
go, and we would like to make reservations in the next two weeks.
The only problem is that the group is split: some want to go to Tahoe,
while the others would like to go to either the Summit (Keystone,
Breckenridge,etc.)/Vail area or the Aspen/Snowmass area.

I received alot of information (Thanks!) last time, most of which I
promptly deleted through sheer clumsiness. So, as someone once said,
there you go again. I'd like to know what any skiers out there have to
say on the specific choices of Summit versus Tahoe and Aspen versus
Tahoe. I'd also like to know where in the Summit, Aspen, and Tahoe areas
are the most fun places to stay in terms of skiing AND day-and-nightlife.
The latter is important, as some of the people going do not want to ski
all the time we're there. (BTW, we plan to go the first week in March).
For instance, if we go to Summit, should we stay in Breckenridge or
at Dillon or at Vail? (I realize Vail is not part of the same complex).
In Aspen, how many mountains are accessible from the village? The airfares
are similar, but is the lodging in Colorado alot more than at South Lake
Tahoe? Is the snow in Colorado really that much better? (As a side note,
I happen to belong to the Colorado favorers).

Any information you'd like to give would be helpful. The last time I
requested info, Aspen was the favorite in most of the responses. Unfor-
tunately, I lost most of the replies. Again, I would point out that we
are not expert skiers. Thanks in advance.
