At 0700, Friday, 30Nov84: 14 degrees F, clear and calm. 64" packed powder and fresh powder (it's cold enough that there may actually be something that really does resemble western powder, though it's probably not more than a couple of inches deep). Lifts: Gondolas: 1, 2 Chairs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 17, 18, 23 T-Bars: 1, 2 Which means the top and most of the front side is open, but none of the back. It's nearly impossible to tell at Mammoth *why* the an area is closed from just the list of open lifts. It's possible that there isn't enough snow, but it's more likely (since 12 is closed) that Uncle Dave's simply cutting down overhead during the week (and saving the snow for the weekend skiers). The latter is also implied by the fact that 6 is closed (which I'm not certain I really believe) and 9 is open. The weekend report will be more revealing. 64" is fairly marginal skiing at Mammoth in my opinion (but then I only have one pair of skis, really dislike rocks, and refuse to use chair 1 if there's more than a three foot climb to get into it). And 14 degrees is really cold (especially for that long exposed ride on 10). But that's OK, there'll be 110" by March, and 30 degree days, and it'll last through May.
